Craig Breen has won the 2019 Corrib Oil Galway International Rally, but the margin of victory was a lot closer than anyone expected. Breen from Waterford, with Paul Nagle on the notes, brought his Ford Fiesta R5 home a mere 14.4 seconds ahead of Alastair Fisher, with Josh Moffett a further 33.7 seconds behind to round off an all Ford Fiesta top 3.

Garry Jennings led initially in his older Subaru Impreza World Rally Car, before Breen moved into the lead after the 3rd stage, Jennings eventually slipping off the road on the 6th stage.

Alastair Fisher also led the rally at one point, Breen having to put his World Rally Championship experience to good use to outpace his rivals on the rain soaked and mud splattered Galway stages.

Jon Armstrong came in 4th in his Dirt 2.0 sponsored Fiesta R5, while Desi Henry rounded off the top 5 in his Skoda Fabia R5.

The rally was watched by huge crowds in what was a spectacular opening to the 2019 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship.
